On April 21, the State Film Fund of Azerbaijan will host the 100th jubilee evening of a prominent playwright Sabit Rahman. The event co-organized by Baku Slavic University will feature talks on the playwright’s creativity and the display of fragments from the films “Arshin mal alan” (“The Cloth Peddler”), “If Not This One Than That One”, “Koroglu”, “Where is Ahmad?” written by him.
Note that a prominent representative of Azerbaijani dramaturgy (the genre of comedy) – Mahmoudov Sabit (Sabit Rahman) was born on March 26, 1910 in the village of Nukha, Sheki. He started his literary activity in 1926-1927 by writing topical satires for the magazine “Molla Nasreddin”. His first collection of stories “Pozgun” (“The Dissolute”) was published in 1931. He is the author of world-famed films “Arshin mal alan” (“The Cloth Peddler”) (1945), “If Not This One Than That One” (1956), “Koroglu” (1960), “Where is Ahmad?” (1963), the musical comedy “Ulduz” (1964) and a author of the libretto of a ballet “Seven Beauties”.
