Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has met with President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic, who arrived in Azerbaijan to attend the opening ceremony of the first European Games, APA reports.

Before the meeting with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, his wife Dragica Nikolic, First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva was awarded the highest state award of the Republic of Serbia “Sreten” order.
 
It was read a decree of the President of the Republic of Serbia to award First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva with “Sreten” order.
 
Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic gave the “Sreten” order to Mehriban Aliyeva.
 
President Tomislav Nikolic said: “In Serbia there is such saying “You can not choose your family, but can choose friends”. Thank you very much for choosing us”.
 
First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva expressed her deep appreciation for the award: “Thank you, I think this award is not only an assessment of our efforts, but also a symbol of friendship and mutual respect between Serbia and Azerbaijan. Thank you very much, the Foundation will continue its work in your wonderful country”.
