“The victim side is formally the side of accusation, but the objective of the suffered is not this, but to find the truth. We don’t need to have the people accused by the inquest put into prison. The verdict should be passed with respect to those who really committed the murder”, the lawyer said commenting for the “Echo of Moscow” radio on the opinion that the indictment hadn’t been passed, because the victim side had taken a neutral stand. She stated again that Politkovskaya’s family wouldn’t appeal against the court’s acquitting verdict. “We fully confide in the jury and in no way intend to challenge their decision”, Anna Stavitzkaya explained.
It is noteworthy the military court passed last Friday an acquitting verdict on Politkovskaya’s murder case based on the jury’s verdict. The jury unanimously considered that none of the accused was involved in the crime. After the verdict was passed, the defendants – brothers Ibragim and Jabrail Makhmudovs, as well as ex-employee of the Interior Ministry, Sergey Hajikurbanov, were set free.
