Babirbek Djeenbekov is accused of non-execution of a court decision and, in compliance with the legislation, he may be fined or imrisoned for 24 months. The matter concerns the court decision passed by one of the district courts of Bishkek in early June: “Alibi” newspaper was obliged to pay out a million soms (about USD 29 thousand) to nephew of Kirghiz President Asilbek Saliyev. Babirbek Djeenbekov stated in his turn that he had no intention to pay out the sum imposed by the court from his pocket.
He also noted that he is currently a registered candidate at the elections to the city parliament. Consequently, in compliance with the elecion legislation, he cannot be called to criminal account without the Kirghiz CEC’s consent. It is not informed whether the CEC has sanctioned the detention or not.
