Obituary

Creativity of this Personality especially showed itself during the national liberation movement and mounted to its peak after Azerbaijan gained its independence. Keen readers should remember well the period when he was the editor-in-chief “Aydinlig” newspaper, the articles of which added a golden page to the national journalism. Working on leading positions in “Ulus” newspaper and Free Speech Foundation, he was unambiguously a pride of our profession. The publicism of Mammad Nazimoglu was a graphic evidence of his civil position. At the same time, even in the hardest and most troubled periods of our history, his publications did not wound honor and dignity of people. Speaking about social problems he did not come down to personal ambitions, which once again witnesses his high morality.
Mammad Nazimoglu’s students working in “Yeni Musavat”, “Yeni Azerbaijan” and “525-ji gazet” are bright examples of journalism’s integrity. “Journalism cannot be politicized, it should be free, objective and anticipate social processes”, such was the slogan of Mammad Nazimoglu who prevented from time to time the tendencies soaking into our profession and conflicting with morality.
He was father of three sons; the two of them did not follow their parent’s way, but they work in the journalism sphere though. We will not be mistaken if we say “The bright name of Mammad Nazimoglu is an everlasting face of national journalism”. This name will always stay in one row with the names of the brightest representatives of our profession.
Free Speech Foundation of Azerbaijan deeply commiserates with all the Azerbaijani people.
God rest his soul!
