New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) held an event to commemorate 20th anniversary of January 20 tragedy. YAP top officials, members of the parliament, leaders of other political parties attended the event, APA reports. YAP Deputy Chairman Ali Ahmadov addressed the ceremony and said Azerbaijan faced with many bloody events in its history. He said the essence of this tragedy had not completely been delivered to the world community yet and urged to continue efforts toward it. “This tragedy became a historic memory and we have to deliver it to next generations that they never forget about it. It needs to learn lessons of this event. Sometimes we hesitate to talk about the tragedies we have faced. But we have to make the world know the truth”.

Chairman of Social Welfare Party Khanhuseyn Kazimli said Azerbaijan was attacked for many times, but every time these attacks were prevented by the people’s unity.

Chairman of Ana Vatan (Motherland) Party Fazail Aghamali said January 20 opened a new page of heroism in the history of Azerbaijan. He welcomed Chairman of Caucasian Muslim Office Allahshukur Pashazadeh’s address to the parliament.

Leader of the Great System Party Fazil Mustafa said there was no need to make comments on January 20 tragedy. He urged to take measures for punishment of originators of this event.

MP Jamil Hasanli said the people and the government strongly condemned the January 20 tragedy. “This was a state crime. It needs to put emphasis on this factor”.

Chairman of the All Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev said former USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachov and that time administration of the country had responsibility for the January 20 tragedy.

Other participants also addressed the event.
