The Moldavian Ministry of Internal Affairs states the search was sanctioned, as the police had been informed that some of the Albasat TV staff worked illegally. The channel’s manager said the police had threatened journalists with imprisonment in case they refused to cooperate. The TV station’s accountant and one of the journalists were detained for an hour. The Albasat TV broadcast covers about one tenth of Moldavian territory. The channel not once laid strictures on the ruling Communist party.
