Entry to Gaza Strip for journalists was closed as early as 5 November, 2008 after the breakdown threat of the armistice concluded between Israel and Hamas in summer 2008. This step stirred up a sharp protest by the representatives of leading worldwide mass media which decided to challenge the actions of Israel in the court. Israel lifted a ban on entry under their pressure on 4 December, but it was put in force again on 8 December. Journalists attempted to enter Gaza Strip several times illegally. Seven of them were detained by Israeli military and kept in a closed military zone. The Israeli authorities are about to bring charges against them.
