International Federation of Journalists calls on Georgia to quit censoring Russian mass media

The relevant statement, RIA Novosti informs, was made public Wednesday by the IFJ secretary general Aidan White.
“The world should know what is going on and we call on both Russian and Georgian sides to allow mass media to work freely and journalists to cover the events freely”, the statement says. Since 9 August, Georgian authorities stopped broadcast of Russian TV channels and closed access to Ru.Net web sites in their territory. They prove the relevance of such a measure by the “information war” waged by Russia. Since 18 August, broadcast of Russian-language satellite RTVi channel has been banned in the territory of Georgia.
