A total of 860 candidates competing for seats in upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, have made applications to district election commissions (DECs), the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) chairman has said.
“Seven-hundred and twenty-two candidates have received lists for signatures, and four of them have already returned them,” Mazahir Panahov said.
Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.
To date, the CEC has registered 394 local observers to oversee the elections.
The CEC meeting also registered authorized representatives of the political parties and made changes in the composition of the DECs.
