At the historical session of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan Republic of 18 October, 1991 the Constitutional Act on “State Independence of the Azerbaijan Republic” was unanimously adopted. Thus, from 18 October, 1991 Azerbaijan has been an independent, sovereign state and the people celebrate the day as a holiday.
