The Group of the European People’s Party held a meeting in Strasbourg on June 22.

The report on the functioning of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan developed by PACE co-rapporteurs Pedro Agramunt and Tadeusz Iwiński was discussed at the meeting. The main discussions were about Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and other occupied territories.
 
Member of the Azerbaijan Delegation to PACE, MP Elkhan Suleymanov has addressed the meeting.
 
“I’m very disappointed with your attitude toward the Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani lands. With this attitude, you ignore the judgment dated 16 June 2015 of the European Court of Human Rights. The ECHR judgment proved the fact that the Armenian government exercises effective control over Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts,” said Suleymanov.  
 
According to the MP, the co-chairs, with their statements, ignore four UN Security Council resolutions, European Parliament resolutions of 2005, 2010 and 2012, and PACE resolution of 2005.
 
“You impose unprecedented sanctions against Russia for the Ukrainian crisis which are caused by some others as well. But you defend Armenia, an occupying country. It is just ridiculous to be satisfied with “The Assembly is fully informed about Azerbaijan’s Armenian-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven other districts, which are dominated in the vast majority of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy agenda” expression that is included in the 1st paragraph of the report. This is a clear disregard and insult against the Azerbaijani people”, added Suleymanov.
