Iran ‘s Supreme Leader says US following own interests at cost of making region insecure

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei slammed Saudi Arabia over the ongoing crisis in Yemen.

In a meeting with ambassadors from Islamic states in Tehran, Khamenei said people in Yemen, Bahrain, and Palestine are oppressed and Iran will support the oppressed, the Khamenei.ir website reported on May 16.

“We will support the oppressed as much as we can,” he stressed.

The U.S. is the supporter and the mastermind of terrorism, Khamenei said, adding that the regional nations are vigilant.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khamenei said that the security in the Persian Gulf region is beneficial to all.

“The Persian Gulf states should be responsible for the regional security. What the is the US doing in here? The US is seeking its interests at the cost of making the region insecure.”

The Saudi Arabia-led coalition has imposed an air and naval blockade on Yemen as part of its campaign to oust the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels, who have taken most of the country and forced President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee to Riyadh.

It was earlier reported that Tehran has decided to send its humanitarian aids to Yemen through Oman.

Saudi Arabia’s aviation has repeatedly blocked planes of Iran’s Red Crescent Society carrying medicaments and food from entering the airport in Sanaa.

Iran says that the planes were carrying humanitarian aid to Yemen, meanwhile Saudi Arabia accuse the country of providing military support to the Yemeni Shiite rebels.
