The CIS Executive Committee sent letters to the member-countries to provide lists of people, who will be accredited as observers to the Azerbaijani parliamentary elections, the executive committee told Trend today. Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7.
The CIS, as OSCE and the Council of Europe, plans to send two observer missions – long and short term to Azerbaijan.
The long-term mission will arrive in Azerbaijan long before the elections to oversee the process of preparing to the electoral process. Following the visit, a report on the election situation in the country will be presented.
The short-term mission led by CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev will visit the country a few days before the voting process and will monitor the elections, the committee reported.
The Executive Committee will soon create headquarters of the observer mission in Baku.
The CIS Parliamentary Assembly also plans to separately monitor the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.
Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.
