A book “Azerbaijani poetry – a Drop from the Sea” has been published recently in English in English. A designer and an author of the book featuring samples of Azerbaijani poetry from the ancient time up to now is Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Pakistan Eynulla Medetli. An introduction to the book has been written by an academician Isa Habibbayli and Eynulla Medetli.
The first work of the book is the people’s writer Elchin’s essay about “Kitabi Dede Gorgud”. The essay analyses the poetic peculiarities of “Kitabi Dede Gorgud”, as well as the role of this ancient monument in the development of Azerbaijani poetry. The information is followed by poetic samples from “Kitabi Dede Gorgud” selected by Elchin. The book includes works of classics of Azerbaijani literature such as Gatran Tebrizi, Mehseti, Khagani, Nizami, Shams Tebrizi, Hasanoglu, Nesimi, Khatai, Fuzli, Gurbani, Govsi Tebrizi, saib Tebrizi, Abbas Tufarganly, Vagif, Vidadi, Kheste gasym, Zakir, Heyran khanum, Vazeh, M.F. Akhundzadeh, Natavan, Seyid Azim, Sabir, Sehhet, Ashug Alasgar, Hussein Bozalganly, Ashug Shamshir, Mojuz, Javid, Ahmad Javad, Shaig, Vahid, Mushfig, Samad Vurgun, Shahriyar and other poets and ashugs lived and created in XX century. The edition gives information and interpretations about every poet. The book published by “Leaf Publications” has a great importance in familiarizing the English speaking readers with Azerbaijani poetry.
