However, representatives of the Hearst Corporation publishing the newspaper stated that if within the next weeks financial condition of the San Francisco Chronicle did not improve, the edition would be closed or sold. It is nothing informed on the potential buyer yet. AP specifies, it is most likely, in the nearest future they will reduce employees at the unprofitable newspaper. At present, 275 persons work only in an editorial department of news.
The Hearst Corporation got the edition with 144 year- history in 2000 for USD 660 mln. However, advertising incomes of the San Francisco Chronicle have begun decreasing sharply recent years. Edition losses have made USD 50 mln for 2008.
