Such a decision was made by the court at the instance of the Office of Public Prosecutor. To tell the truth, the request was met only partially: the Office of Public Prosecutor demanded to close the newspaper for three months, but the court reduced the term down to one month.
We should remind that the correspondence of the NSC bodies was published by the newspaper in November 2008. Soon afterwards, the agents of special services carried out a search in the newspaper’s editorial office, withdrew some documents and part of the edition’s equipment. Editor-in-chief of the “Alma-Ata info”, Ramazan Esergepov refused to testify before the NSC employees. He made a request to the US Embassy for political asylum, but was refused. Esergepov was arrested in early January 2009.
