As informed, the decision was made by Mubarak to protect free speech in the country. According to received information, the journalist, despite of the sentence made in the end of September, was not imprisoned. Eissa greeted the president’s decision, however, he stressed that Egypt is one of not many countries where laws allow imprisoning journalists for professional activity.
Eissa was accused of publication of rumors about health state of 80-year-old president and damaging of the state interests. In particular, foreign investors withdrew over 350 mln USD, fearing political instability.
