The human rights advocate considers the incident as the culmination of the campaign launched by the Ingushetian authorities aiming to liquidate “the only critical voice in the region”. The OSCE envoy demanded from the Russian authorities to thoroughly investigate Evloyev’s murder and punish all the involved in this crime.
Evloyev was killed on 31 August being driven to Nazran for questioning as a witness on one of the criminal cases. Under the official version, the journalist tried to snatch out a numbered gun of a militiaman accompanying him and was vitally wounded with an accidental gunshot into the head. Representatives of Ingushetian opposition consider his death an aforethought political murder.
